[Since Christmas morning, Crowe had been trapped in a nightmare while awake. Mayfield had played on his biggest fear and left him completely alone in what he perceived to be a town full of corpses. He was sure it was a dream at first, but as time wore on, it was getting harder to tell. He hid in his room, keeping away from the slowly rotting bodies of his friends and neighbors, unsure of what to do with himself. All he could do was distract himself with his books and his journal project, but he couldn't focus. He couldn't sleep or eat. He was starting to wonder if this really did happen all because of the stupid letter he wrote.
Anyone who tried to interact with him during these few days was unable to get through to him. It was like he was sleepwalking, and nothing would wake him up.
He managed to fall asleep last night, and wakes up today expecting to see the same thing. Instead, he sees that his room has been rummaged through, his journal open on his bed with nothing written in it, and a note that fell off of him and was now sticking to the bed. The same note was on his bedroom door - "YOU'RE NEVER ALONE".
He stared at these for a few seconds, before bolting out of his room and looking for signs of life in his house. Was he asleep this whole time? Was it just an illusion?]
[Crowe makes a call to the town this morning. There's silence for a few moments before he speaks.]
...Ah. Um, so i-it's the twenty-ninth already? Time certainly does go by fast here, doesn't it. I-is everyone out there alright? Holidays here can be rough in Mayfield, Christmas i-is no exception... Just, ah, let me know if anyone needs anything, yeah? I-I'll do whatever I can. Someone, um, someone just call me back. Anyone. Please?

Date: 2010-12-29 04:14 pm (UTC)Haha, it may be better to be okay at several things, than only be good at one thing. The things that you made were okay, though! I do admit that they weren't the best, but they were very much edible. Are you following a specific recipe? As long as you prepare everything in advance so that you can follow it step by step without rushing, it should turn out okay. ...That, and of course, don't mix up the ingredients. Salt and sugar do look alike, after all. [She laughs quietly to herself.] Tasting what you're making is always a good idea, too; personally, I wouldn't serve to anyone what I can't eat myself.

Date: 2010-12-29 05:23 pm (UTC)We do have a few cookbooks. I'm just not sure where to start.
[He sits down at the kitchen table while the next batch is baking.] Ah, I'm sorry if I worried you over the last few days. But I appreciate you coming to check on me. It's kind of you.

Date: 2010-12-30 07:36 am (UTC)May I see them? I could suggest a few easy recipes and bookmark them, so that you can start with those first. [She'll wash her hands, dry them, and then start helping with the next one. :|b] Until you get an idea of what the spices taste like and the seasonings that you personally enjoy, it's best to stick by what's written.
Hm? Oh, that's no problem! You don't have to apologize for something like that, Crowe. A lot of people were in trouble on Christmas, so it's only right for us to do what we can, too. I'm glad that you're looking better now, but you should still take it easy for a few days more.

Date: 2010-12-30 03:59 pm (UTC)I-I'll be alright. By now I should be used to Mayfield's usual nonsense, yeah? Considering what I had done right before Christmas, I-I'm a bit surprised that it wasn't actually worse for me...
[He looks thoughtful for a moment. Even he knows that having him be stuck alone in a town full of the corpses of his friends and neighbors, making him feel like he was to blame for it, *was* one of the worst things they could do to him. But it was over now. It didn't actually happen. Time to move on. He shakes his head, and smiles a little.]
Plus, e-everyone has been calling me back or stopping by... it's great to know I've got a lot of friends in this town.

Please don't say that, Crowe. Just because you got used to it wouldn't change the fact that these things will keep wearing you down. Pain is pain, and suffering is suffering. Don't push yourself too hard and overlook your limits; you're human like everyone else.

Date: 2010-12-30 05:02 pm (UTC)Oh? I'm glad to hear that too, so you don't need to try too hard. You are hardly alone, after all. Now where were we?

Date: 2010-12-31 05:02 am (UTC)Hm? [She moves aside.] Have you set a timer? Appearances may be deceiving, sometimes. [She'll look for that now; is it on/near the oven?]

Date: 2011-01-05 03:56 am (UTC)She'll be bookmarking some recipe while grabbing a pencil and a sheet of paper to make notes, including how to steam rice Asian-style so it comes out sticky and soft, along with a few variants of omelets. Some easy pasta sauce, and creamy mushroom soup - as well as french onion soup with gratiné. Also a few tips on cooking chicken and pork, along with bookmarking a few different ways to cook them in the book. It'll take a while.]
