[Phone call filtered from drones/NPCs:]

Ah, Halloween is coming up soon, as most of you know by now. Monday, to be precise. Is anyone planning on having a costume party? I would recommend doing it before Halloween. The, um, strange things in Mayfield have a tendency to happen on holidays, though not always. Last year, it was a few days after Halloween...

I suppose this means I should think of some costume ideas. I-I'm not very good at this sort of thing, though.

Action: The trees in town have turned lovely colors now, so Crowe's out to get some photos. If you're a the park, there will be a kid out with a 50s camera taking a lot of snap shots. He may approach you and ask if he can take a photo, as well, especially if he doesn't know you. He claims it's for a project of his - you're free to think what you want about that, but he seems honest enough.

I was planning to watch out for the kids that night. I'm not sure what Dr Quinzel has planned, but...

Not a bad idea...

Dr. Quinzel?

I think she goes by the nickname of Harley. I just don't see her as part of the Sturgis crowd, but there you go. Might be different where she's from.

That reminds me, do you have an idea of which houses are safe to take the kids trick-or-treating on your street?

I see. I guess I should speak with her.

Ah, as far as I can tell, most of the houses on my street are safe. [He has no idea about Warren. Eeep.]

Tell her you want to help with the kids, that will get her to talk to you. Thanks for reminding us, Calleo.

Sure! What kind of project is it?

Ah, well, I try to take photos of everyone in Mayfield, and keep them in an album. I have them sign the back as well. Y-You never know when someone might be droned, so, ah, i-it's nice to remember them as they should be.

[Nina's smile broadens.]

That's a great project. I'd be happy to help. Is there anything specific you want me to do?

[He holds up his camera.] Smile for the camera, I guess?

[Snap!] Thanks. Once I get it developed, I'll have you sign it.

Alright! I'd be happy to.

Great. You should see the collection I have sometime. It's gotten quite big at this point.

I wouldn't be caught dead in any costume...

That kind of thing is embarrassing.

Ah, I got to do it once not long after we moved to the US. I thought it was fun.

It just screams cosplay to me.

Cosplay? Like at that cafe? N-No, it's not exactly like though...

From: [identity profile] artwithknives.livejournal.com
Yeah. But it is like that.

But that's a bunch of people in maid and butler outfits. For Halloween... Well, you could do that, but you usually go with something like, um, a witch. Or a ghost.

...But now that I think of it, dressing up like that might annoy people in town who actually are witches or ghosts.

People cosplay as witches and ghosts too.
From: [identity profile] perfektsymmetry.livejournal.com
I guess I don't understand... There's really no difference then?

There's not harm in doing it for one night, though.

That doesn't stop making it weird.

I don't think it's so weird when it's just for one day on a holiday. I-It's not like it'd be something I'd do every day.

I've never worn a costume. What do people usually dress up as?

Date: 2011-10-25 03:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] perfektsymmetry.livejournal.com
Ah, well, usually anything, really. Though Halloween is usually about things like ghosts, witches, vampires...

From: [identity profile] perfektsymmetry.livejournal.com
Well, it's supposed to be scary things, I guess, and those are the classics. Halloween has a really long history and is different all over the world. It's a big thing back in Ireland, where I was born, but not so much in Europe. And it's big in the US but is celebrated totally differently.

Date: 2011-10-31 03:45 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] perfektsymmetry.livejournal.com
Well in Ireland they do the costumes and candy and party things like they do in the US, but there's also harvest dinner-related things, and some people still carve things into turnips instead of pumpkins. Ah, but when I lived in Italy, it seemed like Halloween was still a new thing there. So it's different in every country, it seems.

Oh yeah? That's neat.

[...Except that without her powers back, there was no way she could participate with her own Costumes.]

Where can we get costumes, though?

Ah, the department stores will be selling some, and if you ask around, people might help you make one.
